Micro & Biofabrication

The Microfabrication and Biofabrication facility supports the design and production of micro- and nanoscale structures for applications in tissue engineering, biomedical devices, and advanced material science. It combines precision manufacturing tools with platforms for the processing of biomaterials, enabling researchers to prototype and refine complex systems with high spatial and functional resolution.

Equipped with instrumentation for 3D printing, thermal processing, and polymer crosslinking, the facility allows for the fabrication of custom scaffolds and microenvironments. Dedicated UV-curing systems and thermostated equipment ensure optimal control over the polymerization and post-processing phases, while analytical balances, pH control, and temperature monitoring tools provide rigorous quality assurance during formulation and fabrication steps.

The laboratory also includes high-resolution microscopy for real-time inspection and validation of printed and machined structures. CNC micro-milling systems and electrospinning hoods extend the facility’s capabilities to include both subtractive and additive manufacturing techniques, offering flexibility in the production of both hard and soft biomaterial constructs.

Environmental control is supported through drying ovens, vacuum desiccators, and thermostated water baths, maintaining optimal conditions for sensitive materials. This integrated infrastructure provides a robust platform for interdisciplinary research projects, spanning from basic biomaterial development to translational bioengineering solutions.
